WEEK IN REVIEW – SOUTH BEND
South Bend, Indiana -- The United States Attorney’s
Office announced that:
PLEAS:
Ø Shirley Sult, 57, of South
Bend, Indiana, pled guilty before Magistrate Judge Christopher Nuechterlein to the felony offenses of theft of government
funds from the Social Security Administration and concealment of information
with the intent to fraudulently secure payment from the Social Security Administration. Sentencing has been set for 7/3/12. These charges were filed as the result of an
investigation by the Social Security Administration. This case is being prosecuted by Assistant
United States Attorney John Maciejczk.
Ø Jeffrey Scott, 52, of South Bend, Indiana, pled guilty
before Magistrate Judge Christopher Nuechterlein to
the felony offense of possession of child pornography. Sentencing has been set for 7/11/12. These charges were filed as the result of an
investigation by members of the Indiana Internet Crimes Against
Children Task Force, including the Federal Bureau of
Investigation. This case is being
prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney John Maciejczyk.
Ø Boubacar Diallo, 22, of Columbus, Ohio,
pled guilty before Judge Robert Miller, Jr. to the felony offense of possession
of 15 or more counterfeit access devices and unauthorized access devices with
the intent to defraud. Sentencing has
been set for 7/19/12. These charges were
filed as the result of an investigation by the United States Secret Service. This case is being prosecuted by Assistant
United States Attorney William Grimmer.
If convicted in court, any
specific sentence to be imposed will be determined by the judge after a
consideration of federal sentencing statutes and the Federal Sentencing
Guidelines.
DISPOSITIONS:
Ø Larry Schulten, Jr., 36, of Elkhart,
Indiana, was sentenced by Judge Robert Miller, Jr. to 27 months imprisonment
and 2 years of supervised release after pleading guilty to the felony offenses of
transferring machine guns, attempted transfer of a machine gun, and possessing
a machine gun. According to the
sentencing memorandum filed by the Court in this case, in early 2011, Larry Schulten, Jr. was selling fully automatic AK-47s that his
father manufactured. He sold two machine
guns and was arrested while trying to sell a third. This case was the result of an investigation
by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. This case was prosecuted by Assistant United
States Attorney John Maciejczyk.
Ø Cedric Williams, 22, of Niles, Michigan, was sentenced
by Judge Robert Miller, Jr. to 54 months imprisonment and 2 years of supervised
release after pleading guilty to the felony offense of possession of a firearm
in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime. According to the plea agreement filed by the
government in this case, Williams sold marijuana on four occasions from a home
in South Bend. Police executed a search
warrant at the house where they found
approximately three lbs. of marijuana, two loaded handguns, two surveillance
cameras, drug packaging, and miscellaneous assorted ammunition, and a handgun
(.380 Walther) loaded with a round in the chamber. Another loaded gun with a round in the
chamber was found in the same room. This
case was the result of an investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco,
Firearms, and Explosives. This case was
prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Donald Schmid.
